Patient safety is a priority to Chinese Hospital and is fully integrated into the Performance Improvement process. The inclusion of patient safety into all aspects of performance improvement provides a systematic, coordinated and continuous approach to integrate patient safety into the design and redesign of all relevant processes, functions and services. The Patient Safety Program is a collaborative effort involving all employees, medical staff, and volunteers. Its goals are to insure patient safety and reduce risks to patients through an environment that recognizes and acknowledges that there are risks to patients; supports proactive efforts to minimize risks; promotes communication and education to both staff and patients; supports and encourages the reporting of errors that minimizes individual blame and focuses on system failures; and supports the notification of patients and when appropriate their family of unplanned outcomes.
Patients are also asked to “Be Involved in Your Care” with the Speak-Up brochure which is handed out at Admitting/Registration.
