Since 1973, the Chinese Hospital Medical Staff and Board of Trustees sponsor an event honoring an individual in the health care arena, with the purpose to enhance medical knowledge about Asian health, recognize distinguished Asian health providers, as well as encourage other professionals in the same field to stride forward and keep improving ourselves in medical knowledge and caring for others. It is currently on its 35th year.

This one-day event entails a scientific presentation by the award recipient followed by an evening banquet in the recipient's honor, accompanied by over 100 members of the Medical Staff and other health care professionals in the Bay Area.
